This one-day symposium at the UNIL Department of Fundamental Neuroscience explores three aspects of the dynamic capacity of nervous systems, featuring invited, internationally renowned experts. “What can we learn from distinct species?” explores insights from non-traditional and atypical model organisms (Maria Antoinetta Tosches, USA; Gary Lewin, GER; Robin Hiesinger, GER). “More than genes and neurons” will cover how systemic, environmental, and cellular contexts beyond neurons themselves contribute to plasticity (Francesca Peri, CH; Johanna Joyce, CH; Gioele La Manno, CH). And “Beyond one brain” will address how principles of nervous system dynamics extend beyond individuals by exploring collective behaviour across diverse biological systems (Iain Couzin, GER).

The symposium also aims to foster scientific exchange, promote new collaborations, support early-career researchers, enhance the visibility of Swiss neuroscience, and engage the public through an arts performance.
